Well, let me tell ya about this “toxic summer comic” thing. It’s a real mess, this story is, just like my grandson’s room after he plays with them toy cars.
So, there’s these young folks, lifeguards they are, in this town by the beach. Port Dorian, they call it. Sounded real nice at first, all sunny and whatnot. They thought they gonna have a good time, meet some boys, light up them bonfires at night. You know, young people stuff. They were lookin’ forward to three months of, what they say, “hot guys” and “late-night bonfires”. Kids these days, I tell ya.
- Lifeguards
- Beach town
- Summer fun turned bad
But then, bam! Things go all sideways. This ain’t no sunshine and roses story, no siree. This “monster-sized” comic, that’s what they call it, it’s about a summer gone bad. Real bad. Like when the milk sours faster than you can say “boo.”
These two boys, Ben and Leo, they go to this beach party, a bonfire thing. Ready to have a blast, they were. But wouldn’t you know it, everybody’s gone! It’s like a ghost town, only with more sand. Turns out, somethin’ attacked. Scared everyone off, it did. This girl Amy, she’s hidin’ and she grabs them, pulls ‘em outta sight.
This Derek Charm fella, he wrote this thing. He won some kinda award, an Eisner Award they say. Must be a big deal. He’s the one who made this whole mess up. He writes for them other comics too, somethin’ about a squirrel girl and a fella named Jughead. Don’t know nothin’ ‘bout them, but this here story, it’s a doozy.
So, what happened? Well, this beach party turned into a nightmare. That’s what the story’s about, see? A “slimy, spooky, madcap summer mystery,” they call it. Sounds like a mouthful to me, but it just means things got real weird and scary. This town, Port Dorian, it got messed up. Real bad.
Seems like somethin’ spilled, some kinda toxic stuff. Now, you got tourists runnin’ around like chickens with their heads cut off. And this fella, a researcher he was, tryin’ to figure things out, he got hurt. Paralyzed, they said. Poor fella. Just tryin’ to do his job, and look what happens.
This whole comic, it’s split into three parts, they call ‘em “issues”. They come out every other month, so you gotta wait a bit to see what happens next. It’s like waitin’ for the water to boil, takes forever. It’s a summer mystery, so you keep guessin’ and guessin’ what’s gonna happen next. And just when you think you got it figured out, somethin’ else comes along and surprises ya.
It ain’t just scary, though. There’s some funny stuff in there too. “Madcap”, they said. That means kinda crazy, like when Uncle Jerry tried to fix the roof after a few too many beers. So, it’s a mix, you see? Scary and funny, all jumbled up together. Like a stew with too many ingredients.
So, that’s this “toxic summer comic” in a nutshell. Lifeguards, beaches, monsters, spilled stuff, scared tourists, and a paralyzed researcher. A real mess, just like I told ya. But, I gotta admit, it kinda makes ya wanna know what happens next. Even an old lady like me gets a little curious sometimes. It’s better than watchin’ them soap operas, that’s for sure. They always cryin’ and yellin’ on them shows.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go make some supper. All this talk about monsters and messes makes a body hungry. And I ain’t got time for no more of this comic book nonsense. Though, maybe I’ll ask my grandson to read it to me later. Just the funny parts, mind you. I don’t need no nightmares at my age.
This comic, it ain’t for the faint of heart, I tell ya. But if you like a good mystery, and you don’t mind a bit of scary stuff, then this summer horror might just be your cup of tea. Just don’t come cryin’ to me if you can’t sleep at night.
In short, this story is about young people facing a toxic disaster in a normally fun place. It has elements of horror, mystery, and even some comedy. Told over three parts, it promises twists and turns, and maybe even some slimy monsters. It’s a wild ride from start to finish, and keeps you guessing what could happen next.
