Alright, alright, let’s talk about this… uh… “X-Men 97 Wave 1.” Sounds fancy, don’t it? My grandkids, they’re always yappin’ about these things. Superheroes and whatnot. Never understood it myself, but hey, if it makes ’em happy.
So, from what I gather, this “X-Men 97” thingy is a cartoon. Yeah, a cartoon. Like them things they used to show on Saturday mornings, ‘cept these ones got… powers. They can fly and shoot lasers from their eyes, I guess. This “Wave 1” part, well, that’s just the first batch of toys, or figures, they call ’em. Little plastic people you can play with. Kinda like them dolls my sister used to have, but these ones look tougher, you know?
Now, they tell me this cartoon picks up where some old cartoon left off. Back in the 90s, they say. Lord, that was a long time ago. I was busy raisin’ kids and tendin’ to the chickens back then, didn’t have no time for cartoons. But apparently, a lot of folks liked it. So now they’re bringin’ it back. These X-Men, they’re mutants. Born different, with special abilities. Some folks don’t like ’em for it, treat ’em like outcasts. Reminds me of… well, never mind. It ain’t right, that’s for sure.
These toys, they’re about six inches tall, they say. Comes in a box, a “retro cardback,” whatever that means. Looks like them old toy packages from back in the day, I reckon. They got all sorts of characters. Cyclops, he’s the leader, I think. Shoots beams from his eyes. Then there’s this Wolverine fella, claws and a bad attitude. And Storm, she can control the weather. Imagine that! Coulda used her durin’ that drought last summer, that’s for sure.
- Cyclops: The leader guy with the eye beams.
- Wolverine: The grumpy one with the claws.
- Storm: The lady who can make it rain or shine.
- And a whole bunch of others, I guess. Too many to remember.
The cartoon started airin’ in March of 2024, they tell me. On some channel called Disney+. Never heard of it. We only got three channels back home, and half the time the rabbit ears didn’t even work right. And guess what? They’re already makin’ another season! Comin’ out in 2026, they say. Folks must really like this stuff. My grandkids sure do. They spend hours watchin’ it and bangin’ them little plastic figures together. Makes a racket, I tell ya.
Now, this cartoon, it ain’t part of them big fancy superhero movies they got now. It’s its own thing, they say. Its own little world. That’s probably for the best. Them movie fellas always messin’ things up, changin’ stories around. At least this way, the folks who liked the old cartoon can get more of what they want. Nostalgia, they call it. Rememberin’ the good old days.
And these toys, they’re collector’s items, I heard. People buy ‘em up and keep ‘em in the box. Never even play with ‘em! Can you believe that? Spendin’ good money on a toy just to let it sit on a shelf. Kids these days… well, and grown-ups too, I guess. Different strokes for different folks, I always say.
So, that’s the gist of it, I think. “X-Men 97 Wave 1.” Cartoon, toys, mutants, and a whole lot of fuss. Me? I’ll stick to my soaps and my gardenin’. But hey, if it makes people happy, who am I to judge? Just try not to spend too much money on them plastic people, ya hear? There’s more important things in life, like family and a good plate of biscuits and gravy.
Anyway, that’s all I know about it. If you want to know more, ask them young’uns. They know all about this superhero stuff. Me? I’m gonna go make some tea.
