Okay, so today I wanted to mess around with some old G.I. Joe comics I had lying around. I’ve always loved the artwork on those covers, real classic stuff. So I got this idea to try and recreate some of my favorite covers, just for kicks.

First, I dug through my collection and picked out a few that really stood out to me. One of them was this awesome one with Snake Eyes front and center, looking all badass. I mean, who doesn’t love Snake Eyes, right?
Then, I started sketching. I’m no professional artist, but I can hold my own with a pencil and paper. I tried to capture the basic layout of the cover, getting the characters in the right spots and all that jazz. It took a few tries, but I finally got something I was kinda happy with.
After that, I moved on to inking. I went over my pencil lines with a black pen, trying to make them look sharp and clean. This part was a bit tricky, ’cause I didn’t want to mess up the lines I had already drawn. Steady hand, steady hand… that’s what I kept telling myself.
Once the inking was done, it was time to add some color. I grabbed my colored pencils and started filling in the characters and background. I tried to match the colors from the original covers as best as I could. It was actually pretty fun, seeing the drawing come to life with all those vibrant colors.
I spent a good chunk of the day working on these covers. It was a nice little trip down memory lane, and it was cool to see my own take on these classic images. I even found a website called * that has a gallery of all the old comic covers, which was super helpful for reference.
In the end, I think they turned out alright. Not perfect, of course, but not too shabby either. It was a fun little project, and it reminded me why I loved those G.I. Joe comics so much in the first place.
- Step 1: Picked out some of my favorite G.I. Joe comic covers.
- Step 2: Sketched out the basic layout of each cover.
- Step 3: Inked the pencil lines with a black pen.
- Step 4: Added color with colored pencils, matching the original covers.
- Step 5: Looked at the covers on * for help.
So yeah, that was my little art adventure for the day. Maybe I’ll try doing some more of these in the future. There are so many great G.I. Joe covers out there, it’s hard to choose just a few!
