Today I tried to do the yeti thing. I had a buddy online, and we figured we’d give it a shot. The idea is you get a bunch of folks together and try to make some cool stuff, all working on the same thing at the same time. Sounds simple enough, right?
First off, we spent a good chunk of the morning just getting the right setup. It’s not like you can just jump in and start coding. We had to make sure we were all on the same page, using the same tools and whatnot. I messed around with the settings, trying to get my environment just right. It’s a bit of a hassle, but you gotta do what you gotta do.
Then came the actual coding part. We decided to start small, just to get a feel for how this whole collab thing works. My buddy, he’s pretty good with these things, so he took the lead. I was mostly trying to keep up, throwing in a few suggestions here and there. We tried to replace some symbols in the code and I just got so confused. We spent a bunch of time on this and we didn’t even solve it. I felt pretty useless. We didn’t really accomplish anything with the coding part today.
We took a break to watch some videos, just to chill out for a bit. It’s funny, we started with a coding tutorial, but then ended up watching some random show. I told him about this show called “2521” and how it’s way better than “Business Proposal,” even though I liked that one too. We watched a couple episodes and had a good laugh. He told me about some game and we watched a gameplay video of it. It looked so cool and we were talking about how we wished we could make something like that.
After the break, we dove back into it. We talked a bunch about what we wanted to make. It felt good to share ideas and get excited about the project. I even pulled out some of my old drawings to show him what I was thinking. They’re not great, but it’s a start. We messed around with some design ideas, trying to figure out what would look cool and what would actually work. It’s a lot harder than it seems.
By the end of the day, we didn’t really have much to show for it. It was more about figuring out how to work together and getting a feel for the project. This was our first time trying something like this, so it’s all a learning process, I guess. We’ve decided that this will be an ongoing project for us. We didn’t accomplish much today, but we’re both excited to see what we can make together.
But I realized it’s all about me. It’s all about my ideas, my work. I’m not sure how to feel about that. The thing I actually wanted to do today, I didn’t even end up doing. We just watched a bunch of videos and talked a bunch.
- We first had to prepare our tools.
- We then tried coding but we failed.
- We watched some videos.
- We drew some sketches.
- We realized we need more practice.
So yeah, that was my day trying out the yeti thing. It’s a lot of work, but I think it’ll be worth it in the end. We’ll see what happens next time.
