Okay, so the other day, I got this idea to start making a comic about my family. I mean, our daily life is full of funny and ridiculous moments, so I thought, why not capture them in a comic, right?
So, I started by just observing. I watched my family closely for a few days, taking mental notes of all the silly things we do. My kids are always doing something that’s just, well, perfect comic material. Like the other morning, my youngest tried to pour cereal into his bowl but ended up spilling half the box on the floor. And of course, the dog thought it was his lucky day!
Then, I started sketching. I’m no artist, let me tell you, but I can draw stick figures pretty well. I grabbed a notebook and just started drawing out some of the scenes I had observed. I drew my kid with cereal all over the floor, the dog happily munching away, and my wife and I just standing there, shaking our heads and laughing.
- First, observation. I just watched and took notes.
- Second, sketching. I drew some rough sketches of the scenes.
- Third, refining. I tried to make the drawings a little better, adding some details.
After the initial sketches, I tried to refine them a bit. I added some more details, like the expressions on our faces and some speech bubbles. It was actually pretty fun, trying to capture the essence of the moment in a few simple drawings. For instance, I drew my son trying to explain that the cereal “jumped” out of the box. It’s these little moments that I really want to remember and share.
Making It All Look Decent
Once I had a few comics drawn, I scanned them into my computer. This was a bit tricky, but I managed it. Then I used some free online tools to clean them up a bit and make them look more presentable. I played around with the colors and the text, just trying to make it all look decent.
Finally, I decided to share them with my family. I gathered everyone around the computer and we all looked at the comics together. They loved them! My kids were especially excited to see themselves in a comic. They laughed and pointed at the drawings, and it was just a really nice moment. They even started suggesting ideas for future comics. It turned into a whole family activity! We are bonding and now it’s just great that way!
So yeah, that’s how I started making comics about my family. It’s been a lot of fun, and it’s a great way to document our lives and share some laughs. I never thought I could do something like this, but it turns out, anyone can make a comic if they just put their mind to it. Plus, it’s a great way to get the kids involved in something creative, and who knows, maybe one day they’ll take over and I can just sit back and enjoy the show! And I realized, it’s a fantastic way to preserve those funny family moments.
