Well, well, well, ain’t it somethin’ else, this whole Marvel QR code business. I tell ya, folks, if you ain’t seen it yet, there’s this new thing Marvel’s been up to, where they hide the last page of a comic behind a QR code. Now, I ain’t no expert or nothin’, but that sure seems a bit odd to me. Back in my day, the last page was right there, on the page itself, you didn’t need no fancy phones or codes to see the end. But, like they say, times are changin’.

Now, let me explain it the way I understand it. What Marvel’s done is, they’ve started puttin’ a QR code at the end of their comics. You scan that code with your phone, and boom, there you have it, the last page. It’s a way to get extra content, like a bonus or somethin’, but only if you know how to work that tech. Now, I know some folks are all excited about it, thinkin’ it’s the future or whatever, but I reckon there’s a few things we gotta think about here.
First off, how long is this gonna last?
I mean, sure, the QR code might work now, but what happens down the line? What if Marvel stops supportin’ those codes, or what if they take them down? Folks who got them comics sittin’ in their drawers for years might end up with just a blank spot where that last page used to be. And don’t get me started on what might happen if QR codes ain’t around forever. I don’t know about y’all, but I ain’t so sure that QR codes are somethin’ that’s gonna stick around forever. What if they stop workin’ one day, or worse, if the servers go down and you can’t even see that hidden page anymore?
Now, let me tell you somethin’ else about this whole thing.
- Some folks think it’s a great idea, they like the whole “digital bonus” thing, but what about the people who don’t got fancy phones or aren’t so tech-savvy? What if you can’t even get to that last page because you don’t know how to scan a code?
- Others worry about spoilers. You know, back in my day, you didn’t have to worry about someone spoilin’ the end of a story. You’d read it yourself, and that was that. But now, if you got a QR code on the last page, and you ain’t scanned it yet, someone else might have already spoiled it for you.
- And, let’s be real, not everyone’s got a smartphone. What about them folks who still got old flip phones? Are they just outta luck?
But, on the other hand…
Some people reckon this is a clever way to keep comics fresh, add a little somethin’ extra for the fans, and maybe even try to make ’em a little more interactive. They say it’s a great way for Marvel to offer bonus content, like exclusive art, behind-the-scenes stuff, or special features that wouldn’t fit in the regular comic. Some people enjoy these bonus pages, but again, there’s the issue of whether or not they’ll be around forever. I just don’t know how I feel about it. Seems like a lot of fuss for somethin’ you can’t even hold in your hand, you know?
And don’t get me started on Marvel’s Iron Fist comic.
I heard that for the 50th Anniversary one-shot, they put a whole big surprise last page behind a QR code. Some folks think it’s a neat idea to crack down on spoilers, but if you ask me, it’s just a way for Marvel to try and control the story more. You can’t even get the last page without their permission! If you ask me, that’s a bit much. Where’s the fun in that? What happened to the good ol’ days of just readin’ a comic, enjoying it, and puttin’ it down when you’re done?

But, then again, if you’re someone who likes technology and you don’t mind scanin’ things, I guess this is a fun little bonus for ya. It’s like a mystery, ain’t it? You don’t know what’s comin’ until you scan that code and find out what’s hidden in that last page. But let me ask you this—what happens if you don’t got a scanner or you don’t know how to use one? Is it really fair to make people miss out just ’cause they’re a little behind on the tech?
So, in the end, what do I think about this whole Marvel QR code thing? Well, I reckon it’s a mixed bag. On one hand, it’s a clever way to offer extra stuff, but on the other hand, I think it leaves some people out of the loop. Whether or not this QR code business catches on for the long haul, I suppose only time will tell. I just hope it ain’t somethin’ that fades away quicker than you can scan it, y’know?
