Alright, let’s gab about this Takara Barbie, or whatever them fancy folks call it. I ain’t never seen so many dolls in my life! My grandbaby, she’s got a whole room full of ’em, but this Takara thing, it’s somethin’ else.
First off, they say it’s from Japan. Japan! Never been there, probably never will. Sounds like a far-off place with all sorts of strange things. But these dolls, they ain’t so strange. They’re pretty, I gotta say. Real pretty. Got them big eyes and shiny hair, just like them movie stars on that old TV set.
- Some are called Licca, that’s a funny name, ain’t it? Sounds like lickin’ somethin’, but I guess it’s just a name.
- Then there’s Jenny, another one. These Japanese folks, they sure like their names.
Now, my grandbaby, she’s got this Barbie, and she tells me it’s a “vintage” one. Vintage! Means old, I reckon. She says it’s worth somethin’, probably more than my old mule back in the day. These vintage ones, they’re from way back when, like in the 60s. That’s before I even had my first kid! They say them old ones are expensive, can you believe it? People payin’ good money for old dolls.
Then there’s these newer ones. They got all sorts of different bodies now. Some are small, some are tall, and some are, well, they call ‘em “curvy.” Sounds like they’re talkin’ about me after all them biscuits I ate this mornin’! But it’s good, I guess. Not all girls are the same, are they? So why should their dolls be?
My grandbaby, she’s got this one Barbie with a “mixing board.” Said it’s for makin’ music. I don’t know nothin’ about that. Back in my day, music was just a fella with a guitar and a harmonica. But this Barbie, she’s got all these buttons and knobs. Looks complicated, if you ask me.
And then there’s them “Color Reveal” Barbies. Now, these are somethin’ else. You get the doll, but you don’t know what she looks like until you put her in water. It’s like magic, I tell ya! My grandbaby, she loves them. Gets all excited, waitin’ to see what color hair and clothes the doll will have.
They say the best-sellin’ Barbie ever is the “Totally Hair” Barbie. Sold millions of them, they did. And I can see why. That doll’s got hair down to her feet! Reminds me of my cousin Sally, she had hair so long, she could sit on it. Course, Sally’s hair wasn’t as shiny and perfect as that Barbie’s.
This Takara Tomy company, they partnered up with Mattel, the folks who make Barbie. So now you got Japanese Barbies and American Barbies, all mixed together. It’s a whole world of dolls, I tell ya. More dolls than chickens in my coop back home! And folks collectin’ ’em, like they’re stamps or somethin’. Spendin’ their hard-earned money on plastic dolls. Well, to each their own, I always say.
But I gotta admit, them Takara Barbies are somethin’ special. They got a look about ‘em, somethin’ different. Maybe it’s them big eyes, or maybe it’s the clothes. I don’t know. But they’re pretty, no doubt about it. And if my grandbaby’s happy, then I’m happy. Even if it means steppin’ over dolls every time I walk into her room.
So that’s my take on this Takara Barbie thing. Just a bunch of dolls, but they seem to make folks happy. And in this crazy world, ain’t that what matters most?
