Okay, so I was digging around in my comic book collection, you know, the usual weekend routine. And I stumbled upon this gem – Batman 423. Now, for those of you who don’t know, this isn’t just any Batman comic. It’s one of those iconic covers that just sticks with you. Todd McFarlane, the artist, he’s like a big deal in the comic world. I remember back in the day, in the late 80s and early 90s, McFarlane was everywhere, especially with his Spider-Man stuff. He even drew the first full appearances of Venom! Can you believe it?
Getting it Graded
- I thought, “This comic, it’s too cool to just sit in a box.” So, I decided to get it signed by McFarlane himself. I heard about this CGC In-House Private Signing thing, but it was a bit pricey. $120 just for a signature? It’s a lot, but it’s Todd McFarlane!
- I packed it up real careful, like it was some ancient treasure or something, and sent it off. Waiting for it to come back was torture!
The Story Inside
While I was waiting, I did some more digging. Turns out, this issue, Batman 423, it’s part of a storyline where these three GCPD officers are sitting in a diner, swapping stories about their run-ins with Batman. It’s pretty cool, the first cop’s tale involves a suicidal heroin addict – pretty dark stuff for a comic, right? But that’s what makes it so interesting, it’s not just capes and punches.
Finally, It Arrived!
And then, the day finally came! The package arrived, and there it was, my Batman 423, signed by Todd McFarlane himself. It was like holding a piece of comic book history. I mean, this guy’s been in the industry for over 30 years, and here’s his signature, right on this comic I found in my old collection.
Sharing the Joy
I just had to share this with someone, you know? It’s not every day you get a comic signed by a legend like McFarlane. And this cover, it’s just so recognizable, even people who aren’t into comics have probably seen it somewhere. It’s a great feeling to get into something that you just like. It’s one of my favorite hobbies.
Anyways, that’s my little adventure with Batman 423. It’s more than just a comic to me now, it’s a story, a memory, and a little piece of art. Hope you guys enjoyed my little story, might do this again sometime!
