Well, let me tell ya ’bout this “The Beginning After the End” thing. It ain’t no regular comic book, they call it a “manhwa” or somethin’. Don’t ask me what that means, sounds fancy, but it’s just pictures and words to me.
Now, this story, it’s about a fella named King Grey. Big shot, he was. Strongest fella around, had more money than he could shake a stick at, and everyone bowed down to him. But, and there’s always a but, ain’t there? Somethin’ happened, and he ended up in another world, born again as a baby. Imagine that! All that power, gone, just like that.
This new world, it’s all about fightin’ and magic and stuff. King Grey, well, he ain’t King Grey no more, he’s got a new name, Arthur Leywin. But even as a little tyke, he’s got that old spark in him. Smart as a whip, learnin’ things faster than a greased piglet. And strong too! He starts trainin’ in magic and sword fightin’, gettin’ stronger and stronger.
- He’s got a family now, a Ma and Pa, a little sister. Good folks, they are. Loves ’em, he does.
- And friends too, kids his age, learnin’ and growin’ up together. Fightin’ monsters and goin’ on adventures.
- But it ain’t all sunshine and roses. There’s bad guys, real nasty ones, and danger around every corner.
This “manhwa,” they say it’s got about 120 chapters or so. That’s a lot of pictures! And they say it’s way behind the book it’s based on. Seems like the book is much further along, hundreds of chapters they say. But the pictures, they’re somethin’ else. The fights, they’re real clear, you can see every punch and kick. And the characters, they look real nice too, not all blocky and weird like some of them other comics.
Now, they had a bit of a problem with this here “manhwa.” Stopped makin’ ’em for a while. Something about “differences in the comic creation ecosystems,” whatever that means. Sounded like a bunch of mumbo jumbo to me. But they said they’re gonna get a new bunch of folks to draw it, so that’s good. Nobody wants to be left hangin’, especially when things are gettin’ good.
I heard tell of a chapter, somethin’ ’bout Jasmine Wind-Borne. A side story, they called it. Don’t know much about it, but it seems like they’re fillin’ in some gaps, tellin’ us more about the folks around Arthur. That’s always nice, gettin’ to know the other characters, makes ’em feel more real, you know?
This whole story, it’s about second chances, I reckon. King Grey, he messed up in his first life, but now he’s got a chance to do things different. To be better, to protect the people he loves. And he’s workin’ hard at it, that’s for sure. Trainin’ every day, fightin’ every day, never givin’ up.
They say he’s got “unrivaled strength” in this new world too. But it ain’t just about bein’ strong, is it? It’s about what you do with that strength. Are you gonna use it to help people, or are you gonna be a bully? Arthur, he seems like a good kid, even though he’s got that old King Grey inside him. He wants to do the right thing, even when it’s hard.

So, if you like stories about magic and fightin’ and folks gettin’ second chances, then this “The Beginning After the End” might be right up your alley. Just don’t expect it to be finished anytime soon. These things, they take time, ya know? And with all the stoppin’ and startin’, who knows when we’ll get to the end. But that’s okay, I guess. It’s the journey that matters, not the destination, or so they say. Me? I just hope Arthur whoops them bad guys good and proper.
And that’s about all I got to say about it. It’s a good story, a bit complicated sometimes, but good. Got a lot of heart, that’s for sure. And that Arthur, he’s a good kid, even if he used to be a king. Just goes to show ya, anyone can change, even if they gotta be born again to do it.
