Alright, so you wanna know about this “Star Trek” thing, huh? I tell ya, it’s a whole bunch of hooey, but folks seem to like it. It’s like this space show, been around forever. They say some fella named Gene Roddenberry made it up.
What’s Star Trek all about, you ask? Well, it’s about people flyin’ around in spaceships, goin’ to different planets, meetin’ all sorts of weird creatures. They got this ship called the Enterprise, and they’re always gettin’ into trouble. Explorin’ space and whatnot. Sounds crazy, right? But people eat it up.
Now, this ain’t just one show, mind you. It’s like a whole family of shows, movies, books, even them video games the grandkids play. They call it a “franchise,” which sounds fancy, but it just means there’s a whole lot of it. You can find Star Trek DVDs everywhere, even on that eBay thing the young’uns are always on. They got fast shippin’ too, so that’s somethin’. They say that Star Trek got cheap on the writin’ at some point, so nobody watched it no more. So they stopped makin’ it for a spell. But it come back, and it’s comin’ back again, it seems. Heard they’re makin’ a new one called somethin’ somethin’ Academy. Sounds like a school for space cadets or somethin’.
- They got the old show, the one that started it all. They call it “The Original Series,” or somethin’ fancy like that, TOS I think.
- Then they got a bunch of other shows, with different people and different ships. Some are good, some are… well, not so good.
- And don’t forget the movies! Lots and lots of movies. Some with them old actors, some with new ones.
- Like I said, books, comics, games… it’s everywhere!
I remember seein’ some of them old shows on TV a long time ago. They had this fella, Captain Kirk, always chasin’ after the green-skinned women. And that pointy-eared fella, Mr. Spock, always talkin’ all logical and stuff. They were somethin’ else, I tell ya. And all the other folks on that ship, they all had their own thing goin’ on. Seemed like a good bunch, even if they was a bit odd.
Now, some folks say it’s real deep, this Star Trek stuff. They say it’s about explore-in’ the human condition, and what it means to be alive, and all that fancy talk. Me? I just think it’s a bunch of space cowboys havin’ adventures. But hey, who am I to judge? People like what they like, right?
And folks is still watchin’ it. They even got those movin’ picture shows, those cartoons. I heard they got all the old actors to do the voices for them cartoons. So I guess it must be good if they got all them folks back together.
They also got a different timeline they started doin’ a few years back, with a fella J.J. Abrams makin’ them movies. They say this new stuff shows when them Star Trek folks were young and fancy free. But you know, it’s all made up anyway, so it don’t much matter what order you watch it in. Just have fun with it, I say. If you like that kind of thing, that is. It ain’t for everyone, that’s for sure. My old man woulda just scoffed and said it’s all hogwash, but times is different now.
So, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ to watch, and you like spaceships and aliens and all that, give Star Trek a try. You might just like it. And if you don’t, well, there’s plenty of other shows out there. Just don’t come cryin’ to me if you get confused, ’cause I ain’t explainin’ it all again. It’s too much for this old brain, I tell ya. Too much thinkin’ involved. I’d rather be watchin’ the birds and feedin’ the chickens.

Is it worth watchin’? Well, I guess that depends on what you like. If you like a good story, and you don’t mind a little bit of space silliness, then yeah, it’s probably worth watchin’. But if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ real down to earth, well, maybe stick to the evenin’ news. At least then you know it ain’t all make believe.
