Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with this character, Catwoman, you know? And I found this artist, Sozomaika, who’s been doing some cool stuff with her. I decided to try and recreate one of her pieces, and let me tell you, it was a ride.

First, I had to find a good reference. I mean, Sozomaika’s art is everywhere, so that wasn’t too hard. I scrolled through some online shops and comic book forums, and I found a cover, Catwoman #47, I think it was? That was the one I decided to go with.
Next, I had to set up my workspace. I cleared off my desk, got my pencils, my inks, and my good paper all ready. I even put on some music to get me in the zone. You know, gotta have that ambiance.
Then came the sketching. This was probably the longest part. I started with the basic shapes, trying to get the pose right. Sozomaika’s Catwoman is all sleek and dynamic, so I wanted to capture that. I erased a lot, redrew a bunch, and finally, I had a sketch I was pretty happy with.
- Sketching the pose: Took me a while, but I got there.
- Refining the details: Adding the mask, the suit, all that good stuff.
- Getting the proportions right: Catwoman’s gotta have those curves, you know?
After the sketching came the inking. Now, this is where things got a bit tricky. I’m not the best inker, I’ll admit. But I took my time, used a few different pens for line variation, and tried to keep my hand steady. There were a few mishaps, but nothing a little white-out couldn’t fix.
Once the inking was done and dry, I moved on to coloring. I don’t have fancy markers or anything, just some regular colored pencils. I tried to match the colors from the original artwork, but I also added my own little twist here and there. I found that the coloring is pretty simple.
The Result
So, after all that, how did it turn out? Well, it’s not a perfect replica, but I’m pretty proud of it. It’s definitely got that Sozomaika vibe, and it’s a decent addition to my sketchbook. I even learned a few things along the way, which is always a plus.
It was a fun little project, and it got me to appreciate Sozomaika’s art even more. Maybe I’ll try tackling another one of her pieces sometime. Or maybe I’ll just stick to admiring her work from afar. We’ll see!
