Okay, so I’ve been wanting to try my hand at painting for a while now, and I figured, why not start with something fun? That’s when it hit me – Scrooge McDuck! That guy’s awesome, swimming in his money bin and all. Plus, I figured it’d be a good way to practice with colors and shading and all that jazz.

First things first, I grabbed a canvas. Nothing fancy, just a regular one from the local art store. Then came the paints. I decided to go with acrylics because they dry fast, and I’m not exactly known for my patience. I picked out a bunch of colors – gold, obviously, for all that money, then some reds and blues for Scrooge’s outfit, and some white and black for details. Oh, and a bit of yellow for his beak and legs.
I started by sketching out the basic shape of Scrooge on the canvas with a pencil. Just a rough outline, you know? Then I started with the background. I wanted to show him diving into his money, so I painted a whole bunch of gold coins. Let me tell you, painting a pile of coins is more tedious than it sounds! But I pushed through, layering different shades of gold and yellow to make it look kind of 3D.
Once the background was dry, I started on Scrooge himself. I filled in his coat with red and his hat with blue. Then I added some details, like his spectacles and his cane. I made his beak and legs a bright yellow, and then I went over the outlines with a thin black marker to make everything pop.
- Step 1: Got a canvas and some acrylic paints.
- Step 2: Sketched Scrooge on the canvas with a pencil.
- Step 3: Painted the background with a ton of gold coins.
- Step 4: Painted Scrooge – red coat, blue hat, yellow beak and legs.
- Step 5: Added details and outlined everything with a black marker.
The trickiest part was definitely trying to make the money look like it was all piled up. I ended up using a small brush and dabbing on different shades of gold to create shadows and highlights. It took forever, but I think it turned out okay.
It is not perfect, and I messed up a few times, especially with the shading on Scrooge’s face. But overall, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out! It was a fun little project, and I learned a lot about mixing colors and using different brushes. Maybe I’ll try painting Donald Duck next. Or maybe Daisy. We’ll see!
