So, I started this zombie tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG) thing the other day. I’ve always been a big fan of zombie stuff, you know, movies, shows, books, whatever. I even tried that “Zombies, Run!” app once to trick myself into exercising. It’s pretty cool because it makes you feel like you’re being chased by zombies while you’re on the treadmill or whatever. I mean, it didn’t really work out for me, but the idea is fun!

Anyway, I decided I wanted to take it up a notch and try an actual tabletop game. I gathered some friends who are also into this kind of stuff, and we set a date to play. I spent a few days looking for a good system. I wanted something that could capture that feeling of dread and survival. Finally, I found one that seemed pretty solid.
When the day came, we all sat down around my big table, I laid out all the materials – the rulebook, character sheets, dice, the whole shebang. We spent the first hour just creating our characters. It was a blast. One of my friends made a former cop, another went with a doctor, and I played a regular guy who just happened to be good with tools.
- First we created characters.
- Then we went over the rules.
- Then we started playing.
The game started simple enough. We were all holed up in a grocery store, trying to figure out our next move. We had to make tough choices about where to go, what to take, and who to trust. It felt pretty real, actually. We argued, we debated, we laughed, and sometimes, we got genuinely scared.
The Climax
The best part was when we decided to make a run for a nearby military base. We thought it would be safe. Oh boy, were we wrong. We got ambushed by a horde of zombies on the way there. It was chaos. Dice were rolling like crazy, people were shouting, and our characters were dropping like flies. In the end, only two of us made it to the base, and even then, we were pretty beat up.
We ended the session there, but we’re definitely going to continue. It was so much fun. It’s amazing how a simple game can make you feel like you’re really in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. I’m already thinking about what we’re going to do next. Maybe we’ll try to find a cure, or maybe we’ll just try to survive as long as we can. Who knows? That’s the beauty of it, I guess.
