Yesterday, I wanted to make a poster. Yeah, you know, it’s that X-Men: First Class movie poster. I really like that movie.
So I started by searching online. I typed “X-Men First Class poster” into the search bar, and wow, there were tons of different versions! I saw a few that said “PremiumPrints” and some from “Grupo Erik”. They looked pretty cool, with bright colors and all the characters on them. Some were retro-style, which I thought was neat.
I spent some time browsing through these, trying to figure out which style I liked best. There was one that had a really intense look, with a close-up of Magneto. I remember seeing a comment somewhere that compared the music in the movie to Daft Punk’s work on Tron, which I thought was an interesting comparison.
- Checked out the sizes, most were around 11.7 x 16.5 inches, or 36 x 24 inches.
- Looked at how they were made, some were glossy, some shipped rolled up.
- Considered the different designs, from retro to more modern styles.
After looking at all these different posters, I decided to try and design my own. I mean, why not, right? I grabbed my old drawing tablet and started sketching. I wanted to capture the feel of the movie, that mix of fun and serious stuff.
I worked on it for a few hours. It wasn’t easy, I kept erasing and redrawing, trying to get the characters to look just right. I focused on the main characters. I also played around with different color schemes, trying to find something that really popped.
Finally, I finished it! It’s not perfect, but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s got that cool, retro vibe I was going for. And you know what? It was actually pretty fun to make. I haven’t drawn like that in ages.
A Reflection
This whole experience reminded me of how much I enjoyed the X-Men movies, especially this one. I think “First Class” did a good job of showing how Professor X and Magneto became who they are. And it makes me excited for the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine movie. I heard it’s going to be connected to the other X-Men films, which is awesome! Anyway, making this poster was a blast. It brought back some good memories and let me get a little creative. Maybe I’ll try making more in the future.
