Okay, so today I wanna talk about something I’ve been messing around with – making a “hack/slash” comic. You know, those crazy stories with lots of gore and a “final girl” who kicks some serious monster butt. It’s been a wild ride, let me tell you.
First off, I started by brainstorming what kind of slasher I wanted to create. I mean, there are tons of classic horror tropes to play with, right? I watched a bunch of old horror movies and read some comics like “Maniac of New York” for inspiration. I jotted down all sorts of ideas, from creepy clowns to weird creatures hiding in the shadows. The goal was to come up with something that felt familiar but also had a bit of a unique twist. Finally I got an idea I really loved.
Next, I focused on the main character, the “final girl”. I wanted someone tough but also relatable. I spent days just sketching different looks and trying to figure out her personality. I thought about how she’d react to different situations – would she be scared, angry, or just plain determined? It was a lot like creating a character for a movie, but on paper. I drew my favorite design and added some color to it to make it more lively.
Once I had the basics down, I started outlining the story. I knew I needed a good opening scene to hook readers, so I came up with this crazy sequence where a group of friends are hanging out, and then BAM! The slasher shows up. I planned out each scene, trying to balance the suspense with some good old-fashioned action. And of course, I made sure to leave room for some twists and turns along the way.
Then came the fun part – actually drawing the comic! I’m no professional artist, but I do okay. I started by sketching out the panels lightly with a pencil, figuring out the composition and how the characters would move. Then I went over everything with ink, adding details and shadows to make it pop. It was slow going, but seeing the story come to life was super rewarding. After that, I scanned my drawings into the computer.
I used some editing software to clean up the images and add some color. I’m still not totally sure about the color palette I want to use, but I’m leaning towards something dark and moody. Maybe with some bright splashes of red, you know, for the blood. I also typed up the dialogue and added speech bubbles, sound effects and stuff.
Right now, I’ve got a few pages done, and I’m pretty happy with how it’s turning out. There’s still a lot of work to do, but I’m excited to keep going. I might even share some of it online once I’ve got a bit more polished. Who knows, maybe I’ll even try to get it published someday!
Challenges and What’s Next
One of the biggest challenges has been finding the right balance between horror and humor. I want the comic to be scary, but I also want it to be fun to read. It’s a tricky line to walk, but I think I’m getting there.
- Keep drawing: Obviously, I need to finish the rest of the comic. I have a rough outline, but there’s still a lot of drawing to do.
- Refine the art: I want to go back and improve some of the earlier pages. My style has evolved a bit since I started, and I want everything to look consistent.
- Experiment with color: I’m still playing around with different color schemes. I might try a few different versions to see what looks best.
- Get feedback: Once I have a more complete version, I plan to share it with some friends and get their thoughts. Constructive criticism is always helpful!
Anyway, that’s where I’m at with my hack/slash comic project. It’s been a blast so far, and I can’t wait to see where it goes. Stay tuned for more updates, and feel free to share your thoughts and suggestions in the comments. I’m always open to new ideas!
