Okay, guys, let’s talk about my recent adventure with the N64 classic, WWF No Mercy. This game, in my opinion, is the best wrestling game ever, seriously. I spent a whole afternoon diving back into it, and let me tell you, it was a wild ride.

First off, I gotta say, setting up the N64 was a bit of a hassle. I dusted off the old console, hooked it up to my TV, and popped in the cartridge. The game booted up, and there it was, the intro that brought back so many memories. I was immediately taken back to the good old days.
I started messing around with the controls. This game has some pretty deep mechanics, not gonna lie. I remembered the basics: The D-pad is used for selecting options in menus and moving your wrestler around in the ring. The analog stick, that’s your taunt button. You can use different directions to pull off different taunts. Showboating is key, you know?
Figuring Out the Moves
The real meat of the game is in the grapples and strikes. I spent a good chunk of time just practicing. Tapping the A button does a weak grapple, and holding it down does a strong one. Same deal with the B button for strikes. I found out that you can also do special moves by pressing B, D-pad and B, or A+B. It took a while to get the timing right, but once I did, it felt so satisfying to pull off those moves.
I also experimented with reversing moves. Turns out, you can reverse grapples by pressing L and reverse strikes by hitting R. Reversing grapples takes some precise timing, but you can just hold down R to block strikes. That saved me a few times, let me tell you.
Getting into the Ring
After getting comfortable with the controls, I jumped into some matches. The game has all sorts of match types, like singles and tag teams. The action is just non-stop, with hardcore, high-flying moves everywhere. I even tried out the create-a-wrestler mode, which is super detailed. You can customize everything, making your own unique wrestler. It’s pretty awesome.
- C-Up: Use this to exit the ring.
- C-Left: This lets you grab weapons from the crowd or the ground. Gotta love those foreign objects!
I spent hours playing, trying out different wrestlers, and experimenting with different strategies. I even found this neat trick where you can get weapons on the stage. It’s all about timing and knowing the right buttons to press. Trust me, it makes the matches even more chaotic and fun.
All in all, revisiting WWF No Mercy was an amazing experience. The controls might seem a bit complicated at first, but once you get the hang of it, it’s incredibly rewarding. This game truly holds up as one of the best wrestling games ever made. If you have an N64 lying around, I highly recommend giving it a shot. You won’t regret it.
So that’s my experience with WWF No Mercy on the N64. I hope you guys enjoyed reading about my little trip down memory lane. If any of you have played this game, let me know your thoughts and what your favorite moves are! It’s always fun to share these gaming experiences with others.
