Well, let me tell ya ’bout this Swamp Thing 88 thing, ya know? It’s a comic book, like them picture books kids read, but this one ain’t for kids, no sirree. It’s from DC, that company that makes all them superhero stories, like Superman and Batman and such.
Now, this Swamp Thing fella, he ain’t your regular hero. He’s a big green monster, made of swamp stuff, plants and mud and whatnot. Kinda scary lookin’, but he’s a good fella, fights for the little guy, ya know? This number 88 book, it’s kinda special, or so I hear. People keep talkin’ about it, sayin’ it’s a curiosity, somethin’ different.
- What’s the Story? I ain’t read it myself, but from what I gather, Swamp Thing goes way, way back in time, to when folks were just startin’ out. And guess what? He meets Jesus! Yep, that Jesus from the Bible. Now ain’t that somethin’? Sounds like a wild ride, if you ask me.
- Who Made This Thing? A fella named Doug Wheeler, he wrote this one. Another fella, Rick Veitch, he had somethin’ to do with it too, I reckon. Seems like this Veitch fella, he wanted to put this Jesus story in the book for a long time, but somethin’ happened, and it got lost for a while. Now they’re talkin’ about puttin’ it back in, makin’ a new book with all them old stories.
This book, it ain’t new, ya see. It came out way back in 1989, September I think. That’s a long time ago! You can’t just go to the store and buy it new, no way. You gotta find a used one, maybe on the internet or in some old comic book shop. A fella called Pangobooks, he’s sellin’ a copy, or so I heard. But it might cost ya a pretty penny, these old books, they ain’t cheap.
Now, this Swamp Thing, he’s got a whole bunch of stories, not just this number 88. And it can get mighty confusin’ tryin’ to figure out which one comes after which. Some fella said there’s a readin’ order, like a list, so you don’t get lost. And then there’s this Wheeler fella, he wrote a bunch more Swamp Thing stories, but folks say they’re a mess, hard to follow. But hey, some folks like that kinda thing, I guess.
Why all the fuss about Swamp Thing 88? I reckon it’s because of that Jesus story. It’s not every day you see a swamp monster meetin’ the Lord. And seein’ as how it was lost for a while, that makes it even more special. Like findin’ a treasure, ya know? Folks are always lookin’ for somethin’ special, somethin’ different. And this here Swamp Thing 88, it seems to fit the bill.
It started way back, you see, with somethin’ called House of Secrets number 92. That’s where Swamp Thing first showed up. Then he got his own book, numbers 1 through 13, and then they kept on makin’ ’em, all the way up to 88 and beyond, I guess. It’s a long story, this Swamp Thing fella, lots of twists and turns.
If you’re lookin’ for a good read, and you like them monster stories and maybe a little bit of Jesus too, then this here Swamp Thing 88 might be just the ticket. But be warned, it ain’t no easy read, and it might cost ya a bit to get your hands on it. But hey, some things are worth the trouble, ain’t they? And this Swamp Thing fella, he’s been around a long time, so he must be doin’ somethin’ right. He meets Jesus after all, ain’t that somethin’ big? So go on, give it a try, if you’re feelin’ adventurous. You might just find yourself a new favorite monster.
Just remember, start from the beginning if you can, or you might get lost quicker than a jackrabbit in a briar patch. And if you see that Jesus fella, tell him I said howdy. And watch out for that Swamp Thing, he might be green, but he ain’t always friendly, especially if you’re up to no good. But like I said, it’s a good story, a real curiosity, worth a read if you can find it. It’s a part of DC Comics, and they got lots of superhero comics, but Swamp Thing, he’s somethin’ special. Just remember that now.
So next time you in a bookstore, maybe you see it sittin’ on the shelf, maybe you don’t. But now you know a thing or two about it. Swamp Thing, Jesus, and a whole lot of history. That’s somethin’ alright.
