Man, I’ve been itching to share this with you guys. So, I finally got my hands on “Fence” Volume 6, subtitled “Redemption.” You know, that graphic novel series about competitive fencing? Yeah, that’s the one. It’s been a long time coming since they switched things up to the graphic novel format back in 2018. I remember when they announced that, I was like, “What? No more monthly issues?” But honestly, it’s been worth the wait.
First off, let me tell you, getting a hold of this thing was a journey in itself. I tried ordering it online, but no luck. Ended up going to a few comic book stores, asking around like some kind of book detective. Finally found a copy at the third store, tucked away in a corner. Felt like I’d struck gold!
Now, about the book itself. It’s written by C.S. Pacat, with illustrations by Johanna The Mad. These two are like the dynamic duo of the comic book world. Pacat’s writing just draws you in, and Johanna’s art? It’s something else. I mean, the way she captures the movement and intensity of fencing is just… chef’s kiss.
This volume, “Redemption,” it picks up the pace again in the world of Halverton fencing. There’s this new fencer who shows up, all mysterious and stuff, which, of course, shakes things up. You know how it is in these stories – new character arrives, drama ensues. I won’t spoil anything, but let’s just say, things get pretty intense. I also heard somewhere that this series was nominated for a GLAAD Media Award. I didn’t know what it was at first, so I searched for it. That’s pretty cool, right? It’s always nice to see good work getting recognized.
I spent a whole evening just diving into this book. Lost track of time, the whole deal. I read it from cover to cover. It felt great to read it all at once.
Here’s the thing though:
- If you’re new to “Fence,” you might wanna start from the beginning. This volume’s great, but it’s even better when you’ve got the whole backstory.
- And for those of you who’ve been following the series, well, you’re in for a treat. It’s like meeting up with old friends, but with swords.
Anyway, I just had to share my excitement about this. It’s not every day you find a comic series that’s this good. It’s got action, drama, a bit of mystery, and, of course, fencing. What more could you ask for? If you’re into graphic novels, or just looking for something new to read, definitely check out “Fence.” And if you’ve already read Volume 6, let’s chat about it! I’m dying to know what you guys thought of the new fencer and all the drama that went down. Seriously, hit me up. We need to talk about this!
