Okay, so, today I am gonna talk about the whole “epic comic club” thing that’s been floating around. Yeah, it is a mouthful, but honestly, it’s been a fun little ride. So, let me tell you how it all started.
First off, I stumbled upon this thing called “Epic”. It’s basically a digital library with tons of kids’ books, like 40,000, for a monthly fee. Not bad, right? I have a little nephew who is totally into comics, so I thought, “Why not give it a shot?”
So I signed up, and man, they weren’t kidding about the selection. It was huge! But then I saw something about this “Dav Pilkey’s Epic Comic Club”. Now, Dav Pilkey is the guy who created Dog Man and Cat Kid Comic Club, which my nephew is obsessed with. So, naturally, I was curious.
I dug a little deeper, and it turns out this club is all about encouraging kids to make their own comics. They have these videos and activities that teach kids about storytelling, drawing, and all that good stuff. I was thinking, “This is perfect!” My nephew is always drawing and making up stories, so this could be right up his alley. It also got me thinking about my own creative days back in school.
We started going through some of the videos, and they were actually pretty cool. They had all these prompts and ideas to get the creative juices flowing. We also tried some of the activities, like creating our own characters and drawing comic panels. It was a blast! He would just be sketching for hours.
And then there’s this whole section where kids can share their creations with other kids in the club. I mean, I also saw people complain about Marvel B-quality work, I don’t really get it. I haven’t seen anything like that. My nephew is not much of a reader, but he is really into the Silver Surfer. We found the “Thanos Quest” series, and he loved it.
Anyways, my nephew uploaded a few of his comics, and he was so excited to see what other kids thought. It was really cool to see him get feedback and encouragement from other young artists. He even made a little buddy on there who’s also into making comics. It’s like a little community, you know?
- We signed up for Epic.
- We found Dav Pilkey’s Epic Comic Club.
- We watched videos and did activities.
- My nephew created and shared his comics.
- He connected with other young comic creators.
The whole experience has been pretty awesome, to be honest. It’s been great to see my nephew so engaged in something creative, and it’s even inspired me to pick up a pencil and start doodling again. Who knows, maybe I’ll even try making my own comic one of these days! But I am not sure how long it will take, I am seeing that some of these club events last like 60 minutes without a break.
Final Thoughts
So, if you have a kid in your life who loves comics or is just looking for a creative outlet, I definitely recommend checking out this Epic Comic Club thing. It’s a fun, engaging way to encourage creativity and maybe even spark a lifelong passion for storytelling.
