Well, hello there everyone! I’m here today to yak a bit about houses, ya know, them dwellings. Ain’t got much fancy book learnin’, so I’ll just tell it to ya straight, like I see it.
First off, findin’ a good house ain’t easy. It’s like lookin’ for a needle in a haystack, only the haystack’s bigger and the needle costs a whole heap of money. Some folks, they like them big fancy houses, with all the bells and whistles. They call ’em “dream homes” or somethin’. Got them kitchens where you could cook a whole pig, and bedrooms bigger than my whole darn house! I seen pictures, ya know, in them magazines at the store. Got them shiny floors and all that fancy furniture. Makes my head spin just thinkin’ about it. Makes my back ache just thinking about cleaning it!
But me? I like somethin’ simple. Somethin’ cozy. Give me a nice little bungalow, and I’m happy as a clam. Don’t need no fancy stuff. Just a roof over my head, a warm bed, and a kitchen where I can cook up a good pot of beans. And a garden! Gotta have a garden. Nothin’ like fresh tomatoes and greens in the summer.
- A good house needs strong walls. Can’t be havin’ no flimsy walls that the wind will blow right through.
- And a good roof! Keep the rain out and the heat in durin’ winter. And cool in summer if the good Lord is willin’.
- And a good floor, solid under your feet. Don’t want none of them floors that squeak every time you take a step.
Now, some folks, they build their own houses. That’s a lot of work, I tell ya. Hafta haul all them boards and nails and such. But I reckon it’s a good feelin’, knowin’ you built somethin’ with your own two hands. More than I can say I’ve done. I always just had what was there or what someone else fixed up. Times are tough you know.
And then there’s them folks that sell houses. Realtors, they call ’em. Fancy talkin’ folks in fancy suits. They show ya around, pointin’ out all the good things about a house. Tryin’ to make it sound like the best place on earth. Sometimes it is, sometimes it ain’t. You gotta use your own head when lookin’ at houses. Don’t let them smooth talkers pull the wool over your eyes.
Location, location, location, that’s what my boy always says when we talk houses. He’s always goin on about it. Says a house is only as good as the place it’s in. And I reckon he’s right. Don’t want to be livin’ next to no noisy factory or nothin’. Want a nice quiet spot, where you can sit on the porch and watch the sun go down.
And neighbors! Gotta have good neighbors. Friendly folks who’ll lend ya a cup of sugar if you run out. Or help ya out if you get in a bind. Neighbors are important. More important than most folks realize.
So, that’s my two cents on houses. Like I said, I ain’t no expert. Just an old woman who knows what she likes. And what I like is a good, solid house, where I can feel safe and comfortable. A place to call home. That’s all that matters, really. A place to call home.
And listen, whether it’s a big fancy place, or a small cozy one. Whether it’s new, or lived in. Doesn’t matter. What matters is that it feels like home to you. That’s the most important thing of all. And if it’s got a garden, well, that’s just the icing on the cake.
Now, I gotta get goin’. Got chores to do. But you think on what I said. And when you’re lookin’ for a house, remember what’s important. Strong walls, a good roof, and good neighbors. And a garden. Don’t forget the garden! And make sure it feels like home. That’s all that really matters.
