Alright, let’s talk about this House of the Dragon thing, you know, the one with all them dragons and fighting. My grandkids, they keep talkin’ about it, so I figured I’d poke around and see what all the fuss is about. Sounds like a whole lotta drama, that’s for sure.
So, from what I gather, this House of the Dragon, it’s like a… prequel, yeah, that’s the word they used. It’s before that Game of Thrones show, the one with all the naked people and stabbin’. This one’s all about the Targaryens, the dragon folks, way back when. Heard tell it’s based on some book, Fire & Blood, somethin’ like that. Sounds fancy, but probably just a lot of made-up stories, if you ask me.
Now, this George R.R. Martin fella, he’s the one who cooked up all this mess. He wrote them books, you know. And they say this House of the Dragon is kinda like history, but not real history. Like, a made-up history book from that Westeros place. Don’t ask me where that is, probably nowhere real.
What’s all the fighting about? Well, seems like it’s all about power, like always. Kings and queens and who gets to sit on that pointy chair, the Iron Throne they call it. And of course, there’s dragons! Big ol’ fire-breathin’ lizards. They use ’em to fight and scare folks, I guess. Sounds dangerous to me. I’d rather have a good dog, myself.
- They got this thing called “The Dance of the Dragons,” which sounds messy. Sounds like a whole bunch of Targaryens fightin’ each other, with dragons. Can you imagine the mess? Probably burnin’ down everything in sight. Lord have mercy.
- And then there’s this “Anarchy” they talk about. Two decades of fightin’! That’s a long time to be mad at each other. Folks these days, they just can’t seem to get along. Always fightin’ over somethin’.
People are writin’ their own stories about this House of the Dragon, too. Fan fiction, they call it. Just folks makin’ up their own versions of what happened, or what they wish happened. Some of it’s probably pretty wild, I bet. I heard some folks write about characters goin’ back in time, or what if things went different. Like that Night King fella, what if someone stopped him? Or what if that Melisandre woman showed up and messed with things? Sounds like a lot of “what ifs” to me. I reckon some of it’s clean, some of it ain’t so clean, you know? Lots of violence, they say. And other stuff, too. Not for the faint of heart, that’s for sure. And there is some cross over fan fictions. The creative minds never stop working.
Some of these stories, they even cross over with other shows and books. Like that Dune thing, with all the sand. Imagine that, dragons in the desert! Crazy stuff. But hey, that’s what makes it fun, I guess. Lettin’ your imagination run wild. Just like when we were kids, playin’ in the woods and makin’ up stories.
But I tell ya, it’s all a bit much for an old lady like me. All this fightin’ and dragons and whatnot. I prefer a good cup of tea and a quiet afternoon. But hey, if it keeps the young folks entertained, I guess it ain’t so bad. Just as long as they don’t start breathin’ fire around here. I ain’t got time for that nonsense.
Anyway, that’s my take on this House of the Dragon. A whole lotta drama, a whole lotta fightin’, and a whole lotta dragons. If you like that sort of thing, then go for it. Me, I’ll stick to my stories on the radio. They’re a lot less complicated.
People recommend fics, and have big discussions. I reckon they love it, just like my grandkids love it. They have all kinds of opinions about what happened and what should have happened, and what’s the best and what’s the worst. Seems like this Daemnyra person is pretty popular, or unpopular, depending on who you ask. They even got their own words for things, like “wank” – I don’t even know what that means, but they use it a lot! It’s a whole ‘nother language, these fan fiction folks speak. And the rating is also important, because it’s all different, some you can let children read it, some you can not let children know.
So, that’s it. That’s all I know about this House of the Dragon. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got some gardenin’ to do.
