Well now, let me tell y’all about this feller Nathan Broome. He ain’t no ordinary man, no sir. He’s got a bit of a story to tell, but he’s been around for a while now in them comics and all. His full name is Nathan Allen Broome, and he comes from a place called Coast City. It ain’t no little town, but it’s far from a big city like New York or Los Angeles, y’know? Nathan, he’s an American through and through, and as for his personal life, well, that’s where it gets a bit sad, I reckon.

Now, you might wonder how he fits into all them comic book stories. Well, Nathan, he first showed up in Green Lantern #2 back in June 2023. Now, I don’t know much about these comic books, but I hear that this Green Lantern fella, he’s one mighty hero, and this Nathan feller got tangled up in his world somehow. Ain’t that somethin’?
See, Nathan had this lady, Carol Ferris, who was his fiancée. They were supposed to get married, but things didn’t go as planned. Carol, she left him right there at the altar, and who did she run off with? Why, it was Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern himself! Well, I reckon Nathan didn’t take kindly to that, and it broke his heart something fierce. So bad, in fact, that he turned into what they call a “Sorrow Lantern.” Now, I ain’t sure what that all means, but I reckon it’s a mighty sad thing. Instead of the love that powers the Star Sapphire Lantern, Nathan’s lantern is powered by sorrow, heartbreak, and all them bad feelings that come when someone you love walks away.
After Carol broke his heart, Nathan swore off love altogether. He couldn’t bear the thought of it anymore, not after how it all turned out. Imagine standin’ there, all dressed up for your wedding day, and then bein’ left behind for someone else. Ain’t that a cruel thing to do to a feller?
Well, Nathan’s story doesn’t end there. No, sir. He gets tied up in all sorts of happenings, like them other big-time superheroes do. See, he’s now part of the whole Green Lantern universe, which, from what I gather, is a mighty big and complicated place. I reckon it’s a whole lot more than just light and lanterns, though. There’s a whole mess of heroes and villains, and Nathan is caught right in the middle of it. He sure didn’t expect things to turn out this way when he was all bright-eyed and ready to marry Carol.
Now, folks say that Nathan ain’t exactly a villain, but he sure ain’t a hero neither. He’s somewhere in-between, with all his pain and sorrow drivin’ him to do things he might not have done if he hadn’t been hurt so bad. I reckon that’s what happens when you get your heart stomped on—sometimes it leads you down a darker path than you ever thought you’d go.
If you want to follow Nathan’s story, you might need to pick up a few more issues of Green Lantern Vol. 7, where he shows up time and time again. But, I’ll tell ya, it’s a lot of reading, and some of them pages might be a bit much for folks like me who ain’t used to all them fancy words and pictures. Still, if you’re curious, that’s where you can catch a glimpse of Nathan and his troubled journey.
So, folks, that’s the long and short of Nathan Broome. He was a man who loved, got hurt, and now he’s a lantern made of sorrow. Ain’t much hope left in him, but I reckon he might find his way someday. Or maybe he won’t. Who’s to say? Ain’t that just how life goes sometimes?
