Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with action figures again, and this time it’s the McFarlane Toys Superman that caught my eye. Gotta say, this one’s a bit of a mixed bag, but still pretty cool.

First off, I went out to find one of these things. I heard McFarlane Toys is pretty big in the action figure world, all thanks to that Todd McFarlane guy. Seems like he started this thing back in ’94, and he couldn’t agree with Mattel on how to make toys, so he just did his own thing. Smart move, I guess.
So, I finally get my hands on this Superman figure. It’s about 7.25 inches tall, which is a decent size. It’s got all the usual articulation points you’d expect from a McFarlane figure, so you can pose him in all sorts of action-packed ways. I started bending his arms and legs, making him fly, and whatnot, just having some fun, you know?
Now, here’s the thing: I’ve heard some people talk about these “platinum” variants from McFarlane being super rare. I don’t know if mine is one of those, but I wouldn’t be surprised. It does feel a little special. Some folks online were saying that the older DCUC figures are top-notch in quality. I don’t have any of those myself, but it is always nice to compare them.
The quality of this Superman figure is… well, it’s okay. It’s not bad, but it’s not amazing either. I did notice that the plastic feels a bit cheap. I’ve heard others say the same about McFarlane figures, so it’s not just me. I guess they’re known for having a huge variety of characters, but maybe they could work on the plastic quality a bit, yeah?
- Variety: I start to search for information, and it is said that McFarlane Toys have a ton of different figures, not just Superman. I guess that’s a big plus.
- Articulation: Like I said, you can move this guy around pretty easily. That’s always fun.
- Detail: The sculpting and paint job are actually pretty good. He looks like Superman, that’s for sure.
- Price: I saw some ads online talking about how you can find these figures at bargain prices. I mean, I got mine for a decent price, so that checks out.
Overall
After playing around with it and digging a bit deeper into this thing, I’d say the McFarlane Toys Superman is a decent figure for the price. I mean, it’s not the best thing ever, but it’s fun to pose and it looks good on the shelf. Just don’t expect the highest quality plastic, and you’ll be alright. I started posing it with my other figures and let them fight each other, and it was fun. It’s definitely a good addition to my collection, and I am happy with the purchase. I start to read more information about this guy Todd McFarlane and how he started the business, and it was very interesting. It got me thinking about starting my own business too. It is not a bad day of playing with a toy, if it can inspire me like this, right?
Anyway, that’s my little adventure with the McFarlane Toys Superman. Hope you enjoyed my messy story!
