Okay, so I’ve been meaning to get into this whole book thing, and a buddy of mine kept going on and on about this guy, William Kent Krueger. Said I should check out some authors who write like him, you know, similar vibes and all that. So, I thought, why not? I’m gonna dive in and see what this is all about.

First off, I had to actually figure out who this Krueger guy is. I mean, I’ve heard the name, but I couldn’t tell you what he’s written or anything. So, I hit up the usual spots, you know, just Googled the guy. Found out he’s a big deal in the mystery/thriller genre, writes a lot about this Native American character, Cork O’Connor, and sets his stories in Minnesota. Sounds kinda cool, right?
Next, I wanted to find authors like him, so I searched “authors like William Kent Krueger.” And boy, did I get a bunch of suggestions. My reading list just grew by like, a dozen names. There were a lot of websites trying to show me some recommendations. I was a little confused about what to do next.
I started digging into these recommendations. I looked up summaries, read a few reviews, and even skimmed some sample chapters. It was a bit overwhelming, to be honest. But I started to see some patterns. A lot of these authors write about nature, small towns, and have these complex characters dealing with some pretty heavy stuff.
- Kristin Hannah: Seemed like a good pick.
- The Cold Dish: It seems that many people mentioned this book.
Then, I figured, I should get some real people’s opinions, not just these curated lists. So, I went on some forums and book groups. Asked around, got into a few chats with folks who’ve read Krueger and these other authors. It was actually pretty fun, hearing everyone’s different takes and getting some personalized recommendations.
After all that, I finally decided to start with these two. It felt like a good starting point, not too overwhelming.
This whole process, it’s been quite the journey. From not knowing much about William Kent Krueger to actually picking out similar authors and starting to read their work, it’s been a fun ride. I’m actually getting into this reading thing, and I’m excited to see where it takes me next. Who knows, maybe I’ll even become a bookworm myself!
